Raid Looting System
- What is DKP?
- DKP, short for Dragon Kill Points, is a concept originally created by Thott of Afterlife, at a time where the only two raid targets in Everquest were two dragons, Lady Vox and Lord Nagafen. These points are awarded to each guild member as they attend a guild raid. The current DKP of each member reflects his or her priority for loot. When a member "wins" an item, they lose a DKP amount that reflects the value of that item. DKP allows for an unbiased comparison between guild members when decisions about loot are to be made based on attendance and recent items that have been awarded.
In all cases where 10 or more guild members are present for a raid, a DKP system will be implemented to equally and equitably distribute loot.
- Within the DKP system every looted item from a raid is assinged a DKP value. When an item is looted the item's DKP value is deducted from the DKP of the character who won the item. Each raid will have a raid leader who is the established loot master. That person will ask anyone who's interested in the item to do an open roll (roll is just to show interest). The characters that are interested in the item will be given the opportunity to purchase the item. The person with the highest amount of DKP will be given the opportunity to purchase first or may defer that ability to the next person in line with a high value of DKP.
- Earning and spending DKP?
- DKP is earned when the raid is over. The item value of each item that drops is added up and then divided equally amongst that raid attendants. For example in a ten man raid, if 6 epics drop when the raid is called for that day then the raid value would be whatever the item values of the drops is added together. For the sake of argument lets say that each item was worth ten points. The value of the raid would be 60. Divide that number by the ten raid attendees and each person would receive 6 DKP. The formula is as such: "Raid Value / # of raid attendees = earned DKP."
- DKP is spent during the raid. When a boss is downed or a random epic drops the person who purchases the item will have the value of the item deducted from their DKP total.
- Earning and spending DKP after Gruul's?
- To eliminate the need for extensive DKP tracking and spending ßedlam has devised an honest approach at loot distribution within raid instances beyond Gruul's. When we as a guild start SSC, TK, and the rest of the 25 man raid instances we will only be spending DKP for tier gear. A thorough explantion of this can be found in the next paragraph.
- Loot distribution and DKP earning/spending will be as follows: Raid attendees will earn DKP based on the raids value as laid out above. The difference will be that regular loots drops will be dispursed via an open roll method. The raid leader will be able to pinpoint who can make use of an item and those people will be able to open roll on the item with the highest roller being the winner. When tier gear does drop it will go the person interested with the highest amount of earned DKP.

General Rules of our DKP
- DKP will not be awarded until the raid has been called for that day. That days raid will stand alone and not be tied with a continuation of that raid on a later day. We may rotate characters through to try and gear everyone equally so this rule must be instated.
- If you leave the raid early you will only recieve DKP for the loot that was dropped while you were attending the raid. If you leave the raid early and we have not yet received any loot you will receive 1 DKP for the attendance of the raid.
- If more than the alloted number of people sign up for the raid then the raid leader will build the raid that is most functional for it and the classes that are duplicated will do a random roll off for attendance and the character that does not attend but shows up will recieve 1 DKP.
- If you are swapped into the raid because someone has to leave the raid early you will be given DKP at the end of the raid based on what dropped. If nothing is dropped then you will recieve 1 DKP forattending the raid.
- If no bosses are downed during a raid then you will recieve 1 DKP for attending.
- Attendees of the raid will be required to sign up the raids via the website calendar. If you are late for the raid or do not show up without a previous explanation to an officer that you will be late or not attending you will be docked 1 DKP. This rule is in place because Raids require hours to complete. If the raid is late starting that is less time that we can be in there raiding. The rest of the raid is counting on your attendance.
- If you show up for a raid and we are understaffed and cannot raid then you will receive 1 DKP for your effort.
- Bedlam will always attempt to fill our raids with our members only. PUGging an outsider is an option but makes for a much more difficult raid. In the event that we bring an outsider into our raid the rules will then change to a random roll off for items dropped. DKP will still be earned for drops but you will not be charged for purchases with your DKP. It will be on a need and greed basis.
- You cannot purchase items using DKP in your first raid because you will not have earned DKP with which to purchase it with until the end of the raid. However if an item drops and is defaulted to you you can take the item and you will be charged DKP. That purchase would put in negative DKP but that is not a bad thing as it doesn't take long to gain that number back.
- If you are negative DKP at the beginning of a raid you cannot purchase an item. However if an item drops and it is defaulted to you you will get the item and be charged DKP for it. There is nothing wrong with negative DKP. Just continue to raid and you will recoup the DKP back to a positive state.
- If no one wants an item that is dropped then the raid leader will check for the presence of a disenchanter in the group. The item will be disenchanted and sent to the guild bank. DKP will still be earned for the drop. The reason we will not do random roll offs for Void Crystals is because they would have to cost DKP as the entire raid would have helped acquire the item. The guild bank will hold these void crystals and if a character needs them from the bank they will be charged DKP for it. Void Crystals will cost 5 DKP from the guild bank. Also you can purchase Void Crystal from the Guild Bank with Gold and/or and adequate donation to the bank. The guild bank section of the website has a value added to each item. That value is in units of gold. If you see an item with 0 value that is because it's value is in silver and can be requested for free.
- In the event that a disenchanter is not avaialable and no one wants the item that has dropped we will do an open roll for item. No DKP will be charged but DKP will be earned. This rule ensures that the only thing that can be done with the item is to vendor it. Please do not pass on an item because you want to horde your DKP. If you are a hybrid class that such as a druid who can fill many raid rolls please take the item instead of passing on it. You may at one point either be asked or make the decision to go from a tanking druid to a resto druid. Spending DKP is not a bad thing.
- A decision has been made that Raid instances that do not offer tier gear will not account towards the earning or spending of DKP. With the current expansion the only raid instance in BC that falls under this category is Zul'Aman. If a raid group is scheduled or is a pick up group we will do open rolls for loots.
- In an effort to more evenly gear the guild as a whole we are instating a rule that no one person can take more than one piece of tier gear from a single instance in any one week raid time span. In essence if during any given week we raid Kara and we drop both tier dropping bosses then if the person who received the first piece of tier gear that week is present for the second boss then they are eliminated from receiving tier gear on that boss. This will help us evenly gear raids and help keep some people raiding who would otherwise quit raiding a certain instance when they've received the gear they want. In the instance that the raid contains the person who is eliminated from a second peice the distribution method will be the same taking into consideration DKP earned but only from those who are eligible. This rule does not apply across raid instances. If we down High King Maulgar on one day and then down Void Reaver the next day then everyone is eligible as the elimination method will not cross instances. This rule will reset every Tuesday in tune with the instance resets by Blizzard.
The co-leaders of this guild have the right modify or change these rules as it is seen fit to better benefit the guild. If changes are made to this set of rules or rules are added a post will be made notifying the guild that they need to reread this DKP explanation.
If you have any questions about DKP please send a private message to the guild leader or any co-leader here on the website.
